Historic & Listed Buildings

Survey, repair, restoration, alteration and extension of buildings varied in age, type, and construction, from modest vernacular to Grade 1 listed, including all liaison with English Heritage, Church Commissioners, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs and specialist consultants and craftspeople.

ROYAL CRESCENT, BATH

Grade 1 listed house in World Heritage site. Bought by a ‘repeat-client’ family moving from London, as three separate flats with many crude intrusions and alterations such as a modern lift in the hall and second staircase cut into the drawing room floor, general dilapidation and damage. English Heritage required original Georgian and later Victorian works to be respected as part of the building’s history. Works restored, altered and extended original fabric. Significant structural challenges and sophisticated servicing needs were met. A substantial family home was formed, with private guest accomodation, a home office suite and connecting business-guest flat. In so far as the painstaking restoration and upgrade were successful there is little to attract the camera!

Photographs show the front and rear, before and after gentle repair and cleaning of stonework using the patented JOS/TORC system; remodelled rear basement area; guest and master bathrooms.
